Book Cover Design

I created a book jacket design for J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I challenged myself to create a design completely independent from the film franchise and existing book covers. I played with shapes and character designs to create a book cover aimed at the 8-14 year old demographic.

I created three distinct cover ideas, and I created value studies for each.

This idea is more abstract than the others, and I wanted to play with bold, arbitrary color.

I love how colorway 1 turned out! This composition was challenging, but I love the movement and shapes.

Character Design

I redesigned characters from the classic fairytale Little Red Riding Hood. I created character sheets and turnarounds for two characters from the story: Granny and Little Red. I drew inspiration from the original version of the fairytale for my characters. In the original French story, Little Red is named Blanchette, so I kept that as Red's first name. I created designs that are simple enough that they could be used in an animated television show or video game, but complex enough to have character.

This exploration was so easy; the original sketch already had so much character!

this exploration of Red's character was fun! I played with a few different hairstyles and demeanors.

Wolf Exploration

This little guy is so funny. I love the idea of this character, but the art director chose not to move forward with this design for the final project.
